However, from an eternal perspective, pursuing such a self-focused existence without a relationship with Jesus Christ amounts to mere existence. Proverbs 14:12 warns, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.”
Contrary to the belief that following Jesus is a dull alternative to a life of personal gratification, God has a plan far beyond our imagination (Ephesians 3:20). His vision for our lives is more fulfilling and abundant than anything we could conceive on our own.
God’s Plan for Abundance
God’s intention for your life extends beyond mere self-satisfaction. He offers a life that is truly rich and fulfilling. Ephesians 2:10 in the Amplified Bible describes it this way: “We are God’s (own) handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, (born anew) that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us (taking paths which He prepared ahead of time), that we should walk in them (living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live).”
In God’s plan, you find continual blessings, a sense of deep fulfillment, a peace that surpasses understanding, and an indescribable joy. Living in alignment with God’s purpose for your life doesn’t just lead to a good life—it leads to an abundant one.
The Devil’s Destructive Plan
However, God is not the only one with a plan for your life. The devil also has a strategy, and it is one of destruction. John 10:10 describes the devil as a thief who comes only to steal, kill, and destroy. If people truly understood that the devil's plan is to bring about harm and ruin, they might be less inclined to follow his lead. Unfortunately, as the “father of lies” (John 8:44), Satan deceives many into unknowingly following his destructive agenda.
Often, when people think of the devil, they envision a comical figure in red with horns and a pitchfork—an image that seems almost benign. In reality, the devil is neither cute nor innocent. He is malevolent, cruel, and heartless, treating even his most loyal followers with contempt and malice.
Satan desires to inflict fear, oppression, sickness, disease, and bondage in your life. He aims to create problems in your relationships, dissatisfaction in your marriage, and chaos within your family. He wants your finances in disarray and your spiritual life in ruins. His ultimate goal is to distract you from discovering and living out God’s purpose for your life by embedding his lies into your reality.
Breaking Free from the Devil
It’s a mistake for Christians to test the boundaries of worldly behavior while still expecting to receive God’s blessings. Some people dangerously flirt with sin, believing they can remain unscathed. This attitude risks placing them in grave spiritual danger. Even minimal involvement with the devil gives him a foothold in your life. You might think you're merely enjoying harmless fun, but from the devil's perspective, you’ve already committed to him.
Consider this analogy: Imagine a person in a relationship who initially enjoys dating but discovers their partner is deceitful. Realizing the truth, they immediately cut off all contact, remove every trace of the person from their life, and sever all ties to regain their freedom. Similarly, you need to be decisive in breaking away from any influence the devil may have in your life. If you’ve been misled or become complacent, you need to aggressively rid yourself of any remnants of his influence.
Choosing God’s Path
Living the abundant life God intends for you involves following His way wholeheartedly. Jesus instructs us to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength” (Mark 12:30). The most fulfilling life comes when God has your entire heart.
Reject the cultural norms that promote self-centered living and choose to align your life with God’s purpose. Here are some practical steps to guide you:
Renounce the Devil’s Influence: James 4:7 advises, “Submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” This step is crucial in establishing a firm relationship with God.
Repent of Sin: Acts 3:19 encourages, “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.” True repentance leads to spiritual renewal.
Return to God: Galatians 2:20 states, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Embrace your identity in Christ and live by faith.
Read the Bible Daily: Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Regular engagement with Scripture provides guidance and strengthens your faith.
Run to God, Flee from Temptation: 1 Corinthians 10:13 assures us that “God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” Seek God’s help to overcome temptation and find His way of escape.
As you break away from the devil and embrace God’s plan, you will discover a life that is not only good but also rich with purpose and fulfillment. Embracing God’s way leads to a life of true abundance, one that aligns with His desires for you.
